Matthew Fyre, an educator for Integrated Pest Management at Cornell University, advised treating clothes with permethrin before going out and checking for ticks, The Poughkeepsie Journal said.
When a tick is found, then Fyre advised taking sharp forceps or tweezers and grabbing the tick close to its head and gently and consistently pull, reported Poughkeepsie Journal.
Fyre revealed that techniques such as dousing the tick with petroleum jelly or burning them with a match can increase the risk of pathogen exposure, Poughkeepsie Jorunal said.
